The Mersey Skatepark in Liverpool will have to wait a little longer for wheels to be turning on its concrete.
The director of engineering and public works for the Region of Queens Municipality says delays in design and concrete work has set back the skatepark opening until May.
Brad Rowter says construction has had its challenges especially with the site, which required crews to remove large boulders and bedrock.
He adds, cold weather has pushed construction to resume in the spring.
Rowter says the contractor was tied up with other projects and didn’t start pouring concrete until November 7.
Work was expected to begin mid-summer and finish by the fall.
Rowter says the public will be proud of the project once its complete.
The almost 12,000 square-foot skatepark, located next to Queens Place Emera Centre, includes a bowl structure and a street and flow section.
There will also be a bike trail near the skatepark, which the municipality is working on.
