The name of Halifax’s largest events venue has officially changed. A ceremony was held in the city Friday to mark the opening of the Scotiabank Centre. Under the new partnership, including the HRM and Trade Centre Ltd., Scotiabank will invest $650,000 per year for 10 years. It also includes more than $5-million for capital upgrades. Renovations will start this fall on improvements including replacing seats, renovating and expanding washrooms, and expanding the concession area for better traffic flow. The ice slab will also be replaced. Work should be finished by 2017. Scotiabank Centre will be open tonight for the Halifax Mooseheads’ home opener against Moncton.
