Michelin Hockey Games Raise $1,700 For Lunenburg-Queens Special Olympics

Michelin in Bridgewater has helped raise $1,700 for Lunenburg-Queens Special Olympics.

This week’s 7th annual Challenge Cup collected donations from the public.

Two hockey games were held including one featuring Michelin’s tire and wire production workers.

This year, team Varner beat team Uhlman 7-3 in the legends game and tire workers got by wire employees 5-3.

Seth Schmidt of the South Shore Lumberjacks won the hardest shot competition, with a shot registering 94 miles per hour.

There was also four memorial sportsmanship awards handed out in honour of Darryl Peterson.

Mark Lee, Andy Jessome, Ray Kendall and Randall Westlake are this year’s recipients.

Some of the money will help one athlete travel to Newfoundland for this year’s Special Olympics Canada Winter Games.

It will be held in Corner Brook from February 29 until March 6.
