The budget for the Municipality of Lunenburg is expected to be announced early next month.
Mayor Don Downe says costs for mandatory provincial programs have been on the rise and this year is no exception.
He says a four percent bump for education has been particularly challenging to work around.
“It’s fairly significant to us,” he says. “We will have to re-calibrate some of the numbers we were working with to make sure we’ll be able to meet that target.
Downe says the municipality is already paying $7.7-million each year.
He says paying more means less money for local initiatives.
The budget is expected to be tabled on May 10th.
