What would happen if there was a total communication loss within the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg?
That’s the question being answered by the Regional Emergency Management Organization as they undertake an operational exercise this weekend in Bridgewater.
The Lunenburg County Amateur Radio Club, alongside members of the Bridgewater Fire Department, will make some repairs to the communications antennas located behind the MODL Office Building on Aberdeen Street Saturday morning.
Regional Emergency Management Coordinator, Heather Mackenzie-Carey, notes just how valuable the amateur radio club is to the region.
“They function for us in a volunteer capacity as a resource we could use is a really wide-spread emergency situation where we had total communications failure,” says Mackenzie-Carey. “It’s a good chance for us to turn something that would have been regular maintenance into something a little more robust; it needs to be done in order for us to be able to enhance our communications across the world.”
She says going to something like HAM Radio Operators would help them stay on top of what’s happening in the world along with other important information.
The Municipality doesn’t anticipate any traffic related issues along Aberdeen St. in Bridgewater as the exercise will be conducted at the rear of the MODL Building on Saturday.
