The Nova Scotia government has more than doubled its funding to the School Healthy Eating Program.
The announcement was made this morning in Halifax.
The total commitment from the Department of Health and Wellness is now nearly $2 million a year.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill says there are many reasons students might not eat a healthy breakfast.
“The situation differs for every family but there are a lot of reasons why kids might need a breakfast or a second breakfast when they get into school. Whether they missed at home, whether they had band practice or sports practice early in the morning and are hungry again, we just want to make sure that, whatever the reason, our kids have full bellies.”
Churchill says every public school student in Nova Scotia will have access to a nutritious breakfast every school day which means they will have the opportunity to reach their potential in the classroom.
