More Super Berries On The South Shore

After three years, a local farmer is about to open his fields.

South Shore Farms owner David Eisnor planted five acres of haskap berries in 2014.

He says the haskap grows on a bush and resembles a misshapen blueberry.

Eisnor will host an open haskap day Saturday to introduce people to the berry.

“That’s really just an opportunity for me to bring family and friends and anyone who’s interested to see what I’ve been up to the last three years, and get to taste the amazing haskap berry.”

Eisnor says it can be used in much the same way as a blueberry.

“There is amazing health properties in the berry. They are said to have five times the anti-oxidants of a blueberry. So super healthy, as you can say it is a super berry.

He says the natural pectin in the haskap makes it an obvious choice for jams.

Also beginning Saturday, Eisnor will be offering a u-pick.

This is his first harvest and he wants to get people out to experience what his farm is all about.
