Nova Scotia Sea School in Lunenburg will be welcoming more youths to their program following the announcement of a $20,000 grant from the province.
Suzanne Lohnes-Croft was at the Nova Scotia Sea School in Lunenburg to announce the funding.
Lohnes-Croft says the school will receive the money to open up ten spaces for young people at the school.
“This money goes to putting more people in the school and people who may need financial assistance in order to be a participant.”
It’s part of $600,000 in community mental health and addiction grants which will be handed out this year.
Executive director Heather Kelday says the new money will mean they can better support the youth.
“Part of the funding is to make sure that we have all of our processes in place so that they can come on the trip, give them the support they need and training and stuff.”
Kelday says no student is turned away because of lack of funds.
Young people with mental illness, addictions or cognitive disorders will learn sailing and wilderness skills as well as valuable life and social skills.
