It’s a literal game of musical chairs.
Around 450 chairs have arrived for the Astor Theatre in Liverpool.
The seats are a gift from the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
Chairmen Mike Boudreau says they couldn’t be more grateful.
“It’s a godsend,” he says, “because if we were going to buy them it would cost $400,000 taxes and shipping included.”
Boudreau says they had to pay about $14,000 to get the chairs from Ottawa but with the donation, the complete cost to replace the chairs and redo the floor of the theatre is expected to be less than $30,000.
He say with the unexpected good fortune they in-turn have decided to pay it forward.
“The YARC in Yarmouth wanted all of [our seats]. So ours don’t get thrown out, ours get donated. Theirs are apparently around 50 years old so they were happy to have them.”
Boudreau says they don’t want to interrupt the current season so the chairs will remain in storage until January.
