Municipality Answers Questions On New Administration Building

Residents of the Lunenburg Municipality got a good look at their new administration building.

MODL Councillors and staff were on hand to answer questions from the thirty or so people who showed up at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre Tuesday night.

Communications Manager Sarah Kucharski says some residents wanted to know why the Municipality needs to build new instead of renovating the current structure.

“For commercial buildings, because of national building code, it’s typically cheaper to build new than it is to renovate a building up to current code, or especially if you have to do an expansion.”

Kucharski says the Municipality listened to residents feedback when relocating the administration building to Nathan Cirillo Drive.

“We own a plot of land up there all ready, and it’s in the municipal boundaries, versus the town boundaries, which we did hear in the first round of public participation, that was important to people when we were looking at site selection.”

Kucharski says the Municipality has been planning for this for some time and the funds are already set aside.

A final vote on the project will come before council in March.

Kucharski says if council decides to go ahead, groundbreaking could take place this June and the new building could be open by March 2020.
