The Municipality of Lunenburg is set to become the first “blue” community in Atlantic Canada.
The distinction requires a pledge to protect water sources in the community.
Charlene Morton is part of the group pushing for the project.
She says this isn’t an issue that can go unchecked.
“There were almost 2000 water advisories this year, in Canada, alone,” she says. “So, there are serious problems.”
Morton says affordable clean water is a basic human right and they want to make sure all Canadians have access to it.
For now, she says, they’re turning their attention to Bridgewater.
