Municipality of Yarmouth: Durkee Declared District 4 Winner

A winner has been declared for District 4 on Yarmouth Municipal Council.

A judicial recount took place Monday at the Yarmouth Courthouse.

It was determined that Patti Durkee did win the district with 169 votes, one more than Andy Baxter.

Baxter was thought to have won the seat on election night, but the official addition days later subtracted five votes off his total.

Durkee says she’s relieved it’s over.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time. It came to fruition today. I’m glad the roller-coaster is over, it’s been pretty stressful for both Andy and I. But it’s done, I came out ahead, and I’m elated.”

Martin Innes finished third with 71 votes.

District 4 includes Port Maitland, Cedar Lake, Lake George, Sanford, Darlings Lake, Beaver River and part of Wellington.

The official swearing-in ceremony is Wednesday night at the municipal building in Hebron.
