NDP To Choose Candidate To Represent Lunenburg Riding

The NDP will have a new voice in Lunenburg come Sunday.

A new candidate will be chosen to represent the party at the provincial level when they hold their nomination in Mahone Bay.

The two nominees are Marc Breaugh and Frank Fawson.

Breaugh is a teacher and guidance counsellor working at Bayview Community School in Mahone Bay.

He says the current Liberal government isn’t meeting its responsibilities.

“Well meaning individuals all – but I don’t believe that they believe in the investment in Nova Scotia and the investment that is required for Nova Scotians to be successful in this province.”

He feels the Liberal government isn’t doing enough to help those in need.

“I’d like to see us prioritize the people of the province that are maybe more vulnerable.”

Fawson is a master carpenter who has taught at NSCC and is a former municipal councillor.

He says government needs more transparency.

“I think people want to see more avenues opened up for them to actively participate in the decision making. I think that is the fundamental role as an elected representative.”

He’s concerned the current government is balancing the budget on the backs of the most vulnerable.

“If we don’t invest in our future we’re destined to continue with what we have now which is not a particularly good picture.”

The NDP nomination meeting will take place Sunday at the Mahone Bay Legion beginning at 2:00pm.
