New Blockhouse Fire Hall Nearing Completion

What used to be a baseball field will soon be home to the team of volunteer firefighters in Blockhouse. It’s not quite finished but the brand new, $825,000 fire hall is nearing the finish line. The department broke ground on the facility in April.

Deputy Chief John Walters says it wasn’t a project that could wait. “New trucks now are getting bigger and they won’t fit through the door,” he says. “It’s an old building and a lot of renovations are required to bring it up to code and when you look at the dollar sense, it’s almost cheaper to just build a new, energy efficient building.” Walters adds the roof of the old hall wouldn’t have been able to handle the coming winter. He says they hope to move into the new building by the end of November
