An increase in illnesses this year is affecting Canadian Blood Services.
The blood donor clinics have noticed a a lot more cancellations and no-shows, due to flu season and other sicknesses.
Director of Donor Relations Peter MacDonald says travel over the winter break also takes its toll, “If you travel to a Malaria risk country, you need to wait a year to donate upon your return. That creates a challenge to keep our donor base active, and then to keep our donors coming back after a year is hard as well.”
MacDonald says they are currently in need of O negative, A negative and O positive, but all blood types are always welcome.
Blood donor clinics are coming up in Bridgewater at the Days Inn April 6-8 and the Royal Canadian Legion in Chester on April 4th.
There is a blood donor clinic in Halifax today at the Marriott Habourfront from 9-1:30. Call 1-888-236-6283 for an appointment.
