New Germany Rural High School took home the $1,000 prize from the Awesome Foundation last night.
The school’s Social Justice Committee pitched their idea to host an event called We Day X.
The money will cover costs associated with bringing speakers and performers to the school.
Committee member Josie Skinner says their aim is to promote positive awareness about the uniqueness of all people.
“We really want to make this event about inclusion and not being afraid of who you are. Because no one should feel that way in school.”
Skinner says plans are already in the works to hold the event in September.
The Awesome Foundation will award another thousand dollars June 27th.
