The battle continues in Greenfield to get a forest fire under control.
The Department of Natural Resources says crews have been on scene since Thursday afternoon.
Operations Manager Jim Rudderham is reassuring the public.
He says an evacuation shouldn’t be needed as the section of fire threatening nearby homes has been contained, but they’re still facing several challenges.
“The weather,” he says. “It’s very hot, very windy and ground [is] so dry down in the western end of the province.”
So far the fire has destroyed about three hectares.
Rudderham says because of the dry conditions people need to be very careful if they’re in the woods.
He says several days of steady rain are needed to reduce the risk of more fires like this one and any small spark could have devastating effects.
