Nova Scotia Disabilities Support Program Receives Funding

A $3-million investment by the province will allow Nova Scotians with disabilites to live more independently.

The majority of the funding will go towards moving 25 adults from large rehabilitation centers into small, community-based homes.

This will provide the staff and support needed for them to learn new skills and seek employment.

Joe Rudderham, Executive Director of the Disabilities Support Program says this is a positive step forward for the government.

“We all know and understand the fiscal constraints of government, and when government makes a decision to investin programming that’s going to help some of the most vulnerable Nova Scotians, that’s a really good thing,” he says. “I’m pretty excited about it.”

Funding is expected within the next few weeks.

Rudderham says all residents will be moved by March 2017.
