Nova Scotia Power Moving Ahead With Plans To Install Province’s First Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Network

There’s some good news for electric car owners in the province.

Nova Scotia Power says it has identified a dozen sites from Yarmouth to Cape Breton where fast chargers will be installed.

Spokesperson Tiffany Chase says site partners and locations of the charging stations will be made public next month.

She says the cost of the project won’t be reflected on Nova Scotia Power customer’s monthly bills.

“We’re proceeding with this project outside of customer rates, so customers will not be paying for this investment. We decided to finance this long-term investment for Nova Scotia. We had the opportunity to partner with the federal government (Department of natural Resources) for the cost-sharing funds.”

Chase says the units can charge an electric vehicle in 15-30 minutes.

She says the project will also help NSP study the effects of the fast chargers on the power system.

In a release, Karen Hutt, President & CEO of Nova Scotia Power says “It’s absolutely a step in the right direction for our province and strongly aligns with our commitment to a sustainable, low-carbon future.”
