Nova Scotians affected by the Fort McMurray wildfires now have one less bill to worry about
The province is suspending payments for student loan borrowers.
Minister of Labour Kelly Regan says the province wanted to do its part to help.
“At a time where they’re dealing with possible loss of employment or where they live, they shouldn’t have to worry about paying back their student loan.”
Payments have already been ceased for those who have a Fort McMurray address on file.
Regan says those impacted by the wildfire who do not have a Fort Mac Address can call Student Loans to see if they’re eligible.
The suspension period will last for six months.
