Norman, Lexina, Nov. 21st, 1926 – October 7th, 2026.
I was born in Gillis Point, Cape Breton, daughter of Christina Devoe and Murdoch MacNeil. I had four sisters, Mary, Rhodena, Evelyn and Marie and two brothers, Cecil and Dennis, all of whom have gone before me. I went to school in Gillis Point for 9 years. I worked a few jobs in Cape Breton, including one at the Royal Hotel in Sydney, where I met Cyril Norman of Long Harbour, Newfoundland. I moved to Oshawa, Ontario, in 1948 to live with my sister Rhodena and worked at a market there. Moved to Sudbury in 1949 and married Cyril Norman on August 19th, 1950.
We moved around the Sudbury region, finally settling in the valley with our four children when Cyril built a house on Larocque Ave. We were both thrilled to have our own home after many years of challenges and struggle. I raised the kids, and Cyril worked in the mines; life wasn’t easy, but we were happy. We travelled back to the east coast to visit with family often and a few times to Florida when the kids were grown and gone. After Cyril died in 2009, I remained in our home until 2017, then moved to the South Shore of Nova Scotia with my youngest daughter and her husband.
Leaving behind my four children; Donna Moore (Ontario), David Norman (Sudbury, Ontario), Terry St.Denis (Branch LaHave, Nova Scotia) and Catherine Norman-Donovan (Lower Branch, Nova Scotia; my grandchildren, Josh, Carly, Alison, Jennifer, Cynthia, Wade and Taylor; great grandchildren Elida, Carson, Georgia, Ben, George, Elena, Vera, Tessa and Leo.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Personal Care Cremations & Memorial Services, Nova Scotia, and as per Mom’s wishes there will be no service.
Donations in memory can be made to Turtle Pond Wildlife Centre. https://turtlepondwc.com/
