Merle Vincent Zinck

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Merle Vincent Zinck, 81, of Lower Northfield, born October 11, 1944.

For 39 years and 9 months, Merle worked in the parts department at LaHave Equipment Ltd. He was a member of the Maritime Ox Pulling Association and the New Germany Lions Club. He was also a member of the Mic Mac Rod and Gun Club and served as caretaker of Maple Grove Cemetery. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Merle enjoyed playing horseshoes, gardening, and spending time in the woods. His family will remember his famous “Zinck Beans” and the wood he loved cutting for them. He whistled while he worked and drove the tractor, and he cherished hunting trips with the guys from PEI – whether they got one or not.

He was a devoted presence in his grandchildren’s lives, always making time to watch their sports or take them to their events. He made sure they knew he was there for them. Though a quiet man, his love was always felt. He enjoyed laughing and playing cards with friends and family, and perhaps having a drink or two.

Merle was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Ellen Zinck of Lower Northfield; his brothers Charles of Chicago, and St. Clair of Lower Northfield; brothers-in-law Raymond Rafuse and Paul Demone; sister-in-law Rita Sutton; and grandson Tristan Zinck.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; daughters Angela (Darrell Fraser), Kelli (John DeAdder), and Kim (Ian Bigelow); son Christopher (Tracey Jarvis); grandchildren Nicholas, Dylan, Benjamin, Zachery, and Jaelynn; and great-granddaughter Charlotte. He is also survived by his sisters Joyce (Ozzie) Wile and Diane Demone; sisters-in-law Monica Zinck and Linda Rafuse; and brother-in-law Jack (Marena) Rafuse.

In Merle’s honour, family and friends will gather for light refreshments on October 9, 2026, from 1-4pm at the West Northfield Community Hall, 227 Feener Corner Road.

Donations can be made in his honour to Maple Grove Cemetery, or to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, West Northfield.

Arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where online condolences may be left at www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
