One Year Later: School Board Superintendent Concerned About Storm Day Closures

Between illness and snow days, students in the South Shore miss a lot of class during the second semester each year.

Last year, school board Superintendent Geoff Cainen suggested they take a look at adjusting the schedule.

He says it’s still a good idea but we probably won’t see changes anytime soon.

“Now is definitely the time to talk about it,” he says, “and we do need to think long term. We’ve have had conversations at the provincial table about it, but there are no changes planned for next year at this point.”

Cainen says while this year has been comparably mild, you never know when a harsh winter will give students less class time.

He says, for now, all they can do is keep talking with the provincial government.
