People in the town of Lunenburg might notice something missing in the coming weeks
Some old trees will be coming down.
The tree assessement report has been completed and the town is now ready to implement the expert’s recommendations.
The estimated cost to the town to plant the trees including labour is approximately $67,500.
Mayor Rachel Bailey says they’ve budgeted for the program to be spread over time.
“The priority will be given to the trees at biggest risk of causing damage. Over time all of the trees that the expert has recommended will be removed and a new tree planted in its place.”
10 trees will be taken down this year and replaced with 12 new ones.
To save cost, public works will remove the trees themselves making way for the professionals who will plant new ones.
