Petite Riviere Elementary Wins Governor General’s Respectful Citizen Award

Students at Petite Reviere Elementary School have been recognized as respectful citizens.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award was given to the school for establishing peaceful and inclusive spaces through the Garden and Woods Project.

Students, staff and community collaborated to create a garden space to take a break and weed and reflect.

And in the woods shelters, forts and homes are built while playing and respecting nature.

The project was recognized for enhancing the social and physical well-being of students while learning about the natural environment.

Students from across the province attended a ceremony at the Spatz Theatre in Halifax to receive the Award.

The awards ceremony also marks National Anti-Bullying Day in Canada.
