Police Applaud Quick Thinking Neighbour In New Cornwall

A man in Middle New Cornwall was surprised by paramedics and RCMP this afternoon.

He was trying to spend the afternoon sailing at Big Mushamush Lake when he ran out of wind.

A neighbour saw him pushing his boat back to shore and called 911 thinking he was in trouble.

Constable Jamal Gray says he did the right thing.

“Every second matters,” he says. “So, we’re glad it worked out like it did, but if he had waited until he was sure, and there actually was a problem, then it might have been too late, and we wouldn’t have been able to do anything.”

Gray says emergency services arrived to find the man safe and sound, albeit a little disappointed at his lost day of sailing.
