Privacy Commissioner Determines MLA’s Rights Violated

The premier’s former chief of staff violated an MLA’s rights after releasing personal health information about Andrew Younger.

An investigation was launched last fall by Nova Scotia’s privacy commissioner after Kirby McVicar discussed Younger’s health to reporters without his consent.

Catherine Tully issued a statement about the investigation.

The investigation also found political staff in the premier’s office received no privacy training and had not read the privacy policy.

McNeil says his office is not responsible.

“It is Mr. McVicar who made that decision. I’d asked had anybody in my office been with him, with that conversation, they said ‘no’ and he handed in his resignation and I accepted it.”

Six recommendations have been made to prevent the issue from happening again.
