The province is creating hundreds of new child care spaces.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill says funding comes from a three-year, $35 million early learning and child care funding agreement with the federal government that was signed in January of 2018.
“Yesterday, we announced 2.4 million dollars in new funding to expand regular child care spaces through our child care centres and also though our home childcare programs as well.”
He says it will create another 750 new spaces.
Churchill says the money will be spread out across the province.
“Yes, we have areas where we need to grow, where there isn’t child care, and we’re looking at focusing the funding in those areas but that does stretch across the province.”
In western Nova Scotia, Lil’ Jems Family Home Day Care will receive $57,522 and La Garderie Familiale de Clare gets $18,652.
On the South Shore, Queens Day Care Association in Liverpool receives $100,000.
The child care sector will also have access to another $5.9 million that Churchill says will help it grow and meet the needs of communities.
