Province Backs Down In Pharmacare Battle With Seniors

The Province has halted plans to change the seniors’ Pharmacare program.

In a release, Premier Stephen McNeil says they’ll take the time to consult with seniors across the province before any future changes are made.

The president of the Seniors and Pensioners Federation of Nova Scotia , Bernie Larusic says the government will likely stay with the income equation, but now his group’s ideas will be heard.

“We have ideas on how to manage that income equation in a more effective way as opposed to the manner in which it has been proposed. It was pretty rich for the government and poor for seniors,” said Larusic.

Larusic says one change stays and that’s for low income seniors who will see premiums reduced or eliminated.

“It’s a very wise on their behalf. They’re going to look at it in depth now and decide how it should come forward,” said Larusic.
