Province Offers All Grade Four Students Two Free Nights Of Camping

A new program is encouraging kids to visit Nova Scotia’s provincial parks.

The province is providing every grade 4 student with two free overnight stays at one of 20 camping parks in the province.

They will also be given a colourful passport that aims to inspire kids to explore by checking off items and activities they experience at the parks.

Lloyd Hines, Minister of Natural Resources, says choosing grade 4 students was strategic.

“The science behind it is that children at that age, that’s the age when they’re really proven to be interested in outdoor activities,” he says.

Nearly all provincial camping parks will be open for reservation starting this weekend.
