Province Pledges Support For Sex Assault Survivors

The province has announced new supports for victims of sexual assault.

This comes hours after the crown said it will appeal the acquittal of the taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the back of his cab.

Justice Minister Diana Whalen says two special prosecutors will be hired to specifically deal with sexual assault cases.

Whalen also announced a new Domestic Violence Court will be opened in Halifax and that government will continue to invest in and expand support services for survivors.

The minister also says the province will look to partner with the federal government to provide free legal advice for victims of sexual assault so they can better understand how to navigate the court system.
