Province Proclaims Adopt A Highway Day

The province is taking today to recognize volunteers who help clean up Nova Scotia’s highways.

This is the fourteenth year Adopt a Highway day has been proclaimed in Nova Scotia.

Since the program began, over 1,000km of roads and 18 exits have been adopted.

Program Manager Amy Langille says Nova Scotians are keen to keep trash off the province’s roads.

“We started on April first and we’ve already had 200 clean-ups registered just on our websites. And that doesn’t include the regional clean ups that take place like the Go Clean Get Green in Pictou County or the Earth Day Challenge down on the South Shore.”

Langille says the program attracts people from all walks of life.

“It’s really everybody. It’s families, businesses, non-profits, churches, school teams – a lot of school teams and Lions clubs, Rotary clubs, that kind of thing. We serve everybody really.”
