Queens-Shelburne MLA Not Re-Offering For Provincial Politics

There will be a new MLA in the Queens-Shelburne riding after the next provincial election.

Sterling Belliveau has announced he is not planning to run after making the decision on his 10th anniversary as a provincial politician.

He served four terms as warden in the Municipality of Barrington before making the jump to MLA in 2006.

Belliveau says he remains committed to the job but wanted to give the next NDP candidate time to prepare to put their name forward in Queens-Shelburne if an election is called this fall.

“My personal opinion is that all the indicators are there, but there is only one person that can determine that and it’s the premier.”

Belliveau served as minister of environment, as well as fisheries and aquaculture within the NDP government from 2009 to 2013.

He’s not sure what is next but will miss talking with people the most.
