RCMP Remind People To Be “Cyber Safe”

The RCMP want to make sure you’re savvy when on-line.

October is designated as Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Nova Scotia RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke says people should be very careful posting photos and videos online.

“The thing to remember is you can’t take a picture back once you’ve posted it online. As soon as you put it up there, people can copy it or screenshot it or save the picture and its out there forever.”

Clarke says another issue is online scams.

“So many times we see these. If you look very, very carefully at a lot of the banking ones that you see in your inbox, you’ll see spelling errors, you’ll see logos that aren’t quite right and those are things that you really need to pay attention to because those are things that are telling you that it’s a scam.”

She says people should always beware of opportunists looking to part you with your money.
