RCMP Warning Public Of Phone Scam In Barrington

RCMP are reminding citizens to be wary of phone scams.

Corporal Jenn Clarke says police received two complaints this morning from the Barrington area.

The residents say they received calls asking for their credit card numbers and remote access to their computer.

Cpl. Clarke says these types of calls should be met with skepticism.

“It’s really important for people to know that anytime you are being asked to confirm information that an agency should already have, that should really trigger your ‘Spidey senses’ right away. They should already have it, they shouldn’t be asking you for it.”

She says if you have concerns, hang-up and call your financial institution to verify the request.

The RCMP also encourage those who experience a phone scam to report it to police.
