Red Cross Looking For Volunteers

The Canadian Red Cross is recruiting.

The aid agency is looking for volunteers to help people affected by residential fires, ice or wind storms, prolonged power outages, storm surges and flash floods.

Disaster Management Coordinator Nicholas Williams, says they want to shore up their numbers across the Atlantic provinces.

“When you come on as a Red Cross Disaster management volunteer, we’re not asking you change your life dramatically to volunteer with us. We very much work around your schedule whether it’s work, family or anything within your personal life.”

Williams says volunteers need to be at least 19 years old, hold a valid driver’s licence and agree to be available to help 24 hours a day on a rotating schedule.

First aid and other specialized disaster training is provided by the Red Cross.
