Region Of Queens, Fire Departments Improving Service

Fire departments in Queens County are teaming up with the municipality.

A fund has been created that will help the six volunteer departments purchase vehicles or help with ongoing operational costs.

Mayor Christopher Clarke says they have been working on the initiative for roughly four years.

“So what this will do is allow the fire departments to spend less time trying to pay off debts for equipment and focus on training.”

Two cents from the tax rate goes into the fund.

Clarke says the municipality also agreed to pay down debt owed to them by four fire departments.

Queens County fire departments include Caledonia, Liverpool, Greenfield, Port Medway, Mill Village and Charleston.
