Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador has hit a snag.
A spokesperson with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal confirms there are problems with steering on the Bluenose II.
Brian Taylor says staff are fixing a bearing in one of the pumps.
The vessel started sailing on July 19 and has had to cancel its scheduled runs for yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the project manager for Bluenose II says the situation should be resolved by the weekend.
Parts have been flown in from B.C.
The hydraulic system will be flushed, reassembled and tested.
Without any surprises, it should be sailing again on Saturday.
Wilson Fitt says it’s not uncommon to have a problem like this.
“The Bluenose is unique and all these systems are custom-built and they have all worked extremely well and to have a little problem like this is a disappointment but not a complete surprise.”
The cost is unknown at this time but will be covered by the province.
Fitt says the vessel is still open for people to visit on deck.
