Saying Goodbye

I will admit I have not always been a rabid Jeopardy fan. I enjoy the show, but it’s not exactly one of those “must see” things. But there is a lot to like about the show.

Not least of which is the fact you can actually learn something.

Really, the show is pretty low key. There is no threat of injury or bodily harm. The biggest moment of excitement is to see how much a contestant might win or loose with a double jeopardy question. It’s all pretty low key.

Which in many ways made it absolutely perfect for Alex Trebek. He’s always been a pretty low key sort of person and he and the show fit each other perfectly. And lately, it has seemed like a little island of sanity in an otherwise pretty crazy world.

While I may not have been an avid watcher, I do enjoy the show, trying to answer the questions before the contestants. On average, I can usually do pretty well. Then again, it would probably be a lot different standing on that stage. And I’m not sure how good I would be at pressing that button. But sitting in front of my TV I do pretty well.

Tonight will mark the end of an era. It is Alex Trebek’s last show as host. This episode was supposed to air on Christmas Day, but was put off for a couple weeks. Which in some ways is good. On Christmas Day, I may have been too busy trying to devour a turkey or about to fall into a turkey coma to pay attention. Which may be why they delayed the episode.

I’m sure they will find another host for the show, but it won’t be easy. Alex Trebek did a great job keeping the show moving, without injecting too much of himself into it. It was a delicate balance, and he did a great job of it.

So tonight Jeopardy will be a “must see”. Just to watch Alex Trebek do his job one last time.
