School Board Bracing For Tough Budget

The South Shore Regional School Board is bracing for a difficult budget process.

A funding adjustment from the Nova Scotia government means cuts around $2.3-million.

The board reduced its budget by $550,000 this fiscal year.

Director of Finance, Wade Tattrie, says they still have find over $1.7-million in savings over the next two years.

“If we take in one year at a time, that’s $860,000 that we have to find and those are fairly significant numbers.”

Tattrie says there are also concerns around costs for heating oil and bus and building repairs.

The board is expected to start discussing the 2016-17 budget early in the new year.
