School Board Superintendent Retiring July 1

After 33 years in the education field, Geoff Cainen is calling it a career.

The superintendent of the South Shore Regional School Board will retire on July 1.

Cainen joined the school board in August 2013.

He announced the decision at Wednesday night’s board meeting.

Cainen says there has been a lot of focus on student achievement.

“Our results, perhaps, aren’t where we would want to be yet but we’ve certainly changed the conversations in schools and in our principal meetings around student achievement.”

He adds, the board has brought forward a long-range outlook and strategic planning to help provide direction.

Cainen says it was the toughest decision he’s had to made in 33 year career.

The board will immediately begin looking for a new superintendent.
