Corporal Jennifer Clarke says the threat was very serious.
She says a man had phoned a news outlet in Halifax.
“We received a call around 4 p.m. that a man told the news outlet to get a news crew to Yarmouth because there was going to be a shootout with police around 10 p.m.”
RCMP officers quickly converged on Pleasant Street late yesterday afternoon. Their focus was on a house on the west side of the street.
Officers, some armed with carbines, were using nearby homes as cover, looking for the suspect.
She says around 5 p.m. they were able to quickly locate the suspect, get him on the phone and place him under arrest without incident.
Clarke says the home was searched and no firearm was located.
The 24-year-old Yarmouth man is facing charges of Uttering Threats and Breach of an Undertaking.
He was held in custody and scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court today.
Cpl. Clarke says no further information is being released at this time.
