Shelburne: Community Meeting Will Focus On ER Closures

Residents in Shelburne are hoping for answers over what’s being called a crisis at Roseway Hospital.

Emergency room closures have been piling up at the hospital.

The Department of Health indicates ER closures have occurred at a 400 percent greater rate in 2015 than in previous years.

Resident Debi Hill says people are very concerned.

“We’re an aging population and we need reliable medical care. It’s a matter of life and death if you have to jump in a car and go to Queens or Yarmouth as opposed to Roseway. We need answers.”

Most recently, the ER was closed on March 6, 10, 15 and 16.

The health authority is blaming the closures on doctor and nursing shortages.

A meeting to discuss the situation will be held tomorrow evening (7PM) at Shelburne Community Centre.
