Shelburne County Arena Trying To Secure Funds For Upgrades

New boards and glass are among upgrades needed at the Shelburne County Arena.

The arena association is also planning to upgrade the concrete and tubing underneath the ice.

President of the Shelburne County Arena Association, Tony Mahaney, says it’s expected to cost more than a million dollars.

“The concrete is splitting, the brine tubes have a finite life expectancy. We’re looking at replacing that before we have a catastrophic breakdown.”

Municipal and town councils in Shelburne are being asked to contribute $200,000 by 2018-19, when work would begin.

The association is also applying for federal and provincial funding.

This is the third phase of upgrades at the arena.
