There were no injuries after a fire aboard the Farley Mowat vessel today in Shelburne.
Workers were using torches to cut apart the ship’s deck when a fire started and spread to the living quarters.
It happened just before the noon hour.
Firefighters from Shelburne extinguished the fire in less than two hours.
Deputy Chief Darrell Locke says it was dangerous.
“Very unstable situation. A lot of holes cut in the deck and then add smoke to that and the gear that we wear and dragging the hose.”
Locke says the fire was accidental and is not considered suspicious.
The ship is being dismantled after a court order was given to remove the vessel from Shelburne Harbour.
