Shelburne: Pride Flag Will Be Raised For First Time

The Town of Shelburne will raise the “Pride flag” during a special ceremony on Thursday. It will mark the first time in 231 years, the town will celebrate gay pride in an official capacity. Councillor Roy O’Donnell says they recently made a change to their policies to ensure all flags could fly in the town. He says it was in the name of inclusiveness. The ceremony will feature Neville MacKay, a popular gay rights activist and media personality along with Queens-Shelburne MLA Sterling Belliveau. The event coincides with the start of Halifax Pride Week. It will be held at noon in Shelburne at the public flagpole at Water and King Streets.
