According to a recent Angus Reid poll seventy percent of Canadians think say professionals who work with people who are especially susceptible to influenza should have to get a flu shot every year.
But, as Shachi Kurl, executive director of the Angus Reid Institute points out, it’s a case of, do as I say, not as I do.
“The majority of Canadians themselves did not get a shot this last flu season,” said Kurl.
According to the survey nearly two-thirds of Canadians did not get vaccinated this year.
Shachi says a big question not asked this time around is who should be legally required to get the shot?
And does it cross the line of personal choice in this country?
“The notion of seeing governments require people to stick needles in their arms really speaks to the very fundamentals of choice and privacy in this country.”
