Single Vehicle Crash Takes Out Fence, Trees in Blockhouse

If you live in the Blockhouse, Maitland or West end of Mahone Bay area and heard a loud bang last (Tuesday) night, you’re not alone.

It was around 9:30pm when a loud crashing sound could be heard throughout the area, even from as far south as Big Lots Road and Hirtle Road in Maitland.

Eroll and Patricia Joudrey were inside their house just north of the 4 way stop in Blockhouse along Hwy 325 when the loud crash startled them.

“I looked out and our fence was gone and our bushes were cut off and there was a board through the windshield of the van and luckily the guy got out, he kind of walked around a little, I think he was in shock,” Patricia Joudrey tells Acadia News.

The force of the single vehicle collision sent the van across their front yard, through a set of trees nestled in a small ditch/ravine and into the parking lot of the nearby French Bakery, Boulangerie Vendeenne. In fact , the force of the impact was enough to uproot and snap at least three trees, which were still resting in the gravel parking lot of the bakery Wednesday morning.

Joudrey says she quickly called 911.

“The ambulance and the fire department and the police came, in short order they were all here and dealt with, then the police came back here about 11:30,” adds Joudrey.

The driver of the vehicle did not suffer any major injuries and at this point, there is no word on what may have caused the crash.

Police continue to investigate.
