The Nova Scotia Government is bringing-in a number of fee increases for various services.
Among them, increased fares to ride provincially-operated ferries, such as those serving the Tancook Islands and the LaHave River.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Lunenburg Don Downe is worried about the impact the increases will have on those who are just scraping by and rely on ferry services every day.
” We are aware the province is in a huge financial situation, a crisis as I would call it”, says the Mayor. “But we also want to know what impact this will have in our community and we are concerned about that clearly.”
Mayor Downe and Council are sending a letter to the McNeil Government asking for clarification on the increases and what can be done to ease the burden on ferry travellers.
