South Shore Set For Tall Ships

Excitement is building as the Tall Ships prepare to sail into the South Shore next week.

Robin Scott is chair of the Site Committee for the Rendez-Vous 2017 Lunenburg stop.

He’s expecting up to 8,000 people in town each day the ships are in, and says they’re working to accommodate everyone.

“If they sort of gear themselves to the fact that, well, let’s just park outside and take the shuttle in. That should hopefully alleviate some of the confusion and congestion. We have limited spots to put people.”

Scott says four parking lots have been established on the edges of town.

“Lunenburg itself is a challenge on any given day with respect to parking given the high rate of tourism we have. And that will be amplified even moreso come tall ships weekend.”

Shuttle buses will run continuously to pick people up and drop them off in town.

Events Coordinator for the Town of Shelburne, Robin Walker says preparations are well under way there also.

But a few more volunteers are needed across the event.

“Baggage claim, information booth and the surveys. The surveys are a big thing because, like I say, we have to get those done.”

Walker says the tall ships will give the town a chance to show what it has to offer.

“Darren Hudson will be there, we have a chowder tasting event and a craft beer tasting event… we have a lobster supper.”

The tall ships will dock in Lunenburg from the 10-12, making their way to Shelburne for the 14-15.
